Minutes of the March 27, 2001 meeting of the STNYLUG -- We had a rather exceptional turn-out, with four in attendance (not counting the host) which is better than the previous couple of months where we had, shall I say, 'A much smaller group' (zero, I think ). Glad to see a renewed interest. In the mix were 3 NEW faces (YES, 3). Perhaps they can persuade some others to attend next time. (Those 'others' could be some from the founding group, maybe/sorta 'like a 'reunion' (nahhh, lets not overdo it!!)) We had a home machine that needed a little prodding to talk to a somewhat 'used' but useful modem and then we were able to kick the little bugger into connecting to the dial-up service of choice, all within about 4 hours, with a number of 'cooks' each adding a little seasoning to the pot. A bit of networking was discussed even while the modem team was doing their thing. Some security philosophy and procedures were also bandied about during the configuration exercise. And as usual there was the 'required' MS bashing, various ISP bashing and other sundry war stories, all somehow, finally relating to Open Source Software, LINUX and other associated topics. Thanks to Jonathan for the donuts. MMmmmmmmmm. Respectfully submitted, Your Host Attendance -- Steve Chip Angie Jonathan
